Weaving Project Library

  • Project #1: Napkins

In May 2021, we worked on making napkins. Rigid heddle weavers worked in plain weave and explored stripes and warp/weft color interactions. Four and eight shaft weavers explored Huck Lace.

  • Project #2: Summer towels

In June 2021, we worked with the soothing, cooling, soft colors of summer. Rigid Heddle weavers explored hand manipulated lace. Four and eight shaft weavers explored bird's eye twills.

  • Project #3: Atwater-Bronson

In August 2021, we worked with texture and solid warps and wefts. Rigid heddle weavers worked with pick-up techniques. Four and eight shaft weavers explored blocks.

  • Project #4: Jewel Tone Towels

In October 2021, we worked with jewel tones and fun details to create easy towels. Eight shaft weavers explored weaving hearts. This pattern can also be used to create napkins.

  • Project #5: Rep Weave Placemats

In January 2022, we explored rep weave inspired by the desert. We used a dense sett, alternating warp colors, and alternating thick and thin weft yarns to weave placemats, table runners, or both.

  • Project #6: Spring Napkins

In March 2022, our rigid-heddle weavers explored Supplemental Weft. Four-shaft weavers worked on Monk’s Belt, and eight-shaft weavers wove Overshot. This kit is a celebration of spring!

  • Project #7: Waffles & Ice Cream

In May 2022, we worked with waffle weave, which plays around with combinations of long floats and plain weave, to create a fabric that collapses in on itself when wet finished.

  • Project #8: Rag Rugs

In July 2022, we worked with Brassard cotton as warp and recycled fabric as weft, to explore color texture, movement and form in rag rugs. Instructions include tapestry techniques, some of which Dena learned early in her career.

  • Project #9: Weaver's Gambit

This kit is all about games and blocks. We take one basic idea—the game board—and each club explores it using a different weave structure.

The rigid-heddle project uses Atwater-Bronson lace, the four-shaft project is summer and winter, and the eight-shaft pattern is twill blocks.

  • Project #10: Pinwheel Pop

In this project, we create fun, fabulous effects by combining simple weave structures with alternating dark and light threads repeating rhythms in both warp and weft.

  • Project #11: Caribbean Picninc

Caribbean Picnic is an exploration of how structure, color, spacing, and high contrast between warp and weft can create fabulous gradients that can be pushed to iridescence.

  • Project #12: Ferdinand's Folly

This kit is an exploration of some of the amazing things that are possible with beautiful, hand-dyed yarn. Weave with Malabrigo Silkpaca, 70% baby alpaca, 30% silk…total luxury!
